Hopi Ear Candling
This is a form of treatment which derives its name from the Native American Indian Hopi tribe,
but is a practice that has been used by many tribal cultures worldwide for thousands of years.
Ancient rock paintings show the use of ear candles at initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies.
Ear candles are long, hollow candles made of organic cotton and beeswax, honey extract, and traditional
herbs such as sage, St. John’s wort and chamomile. The candle is lit and then gently inserted into the
entrance of the ear canal. It takes approximately 10 minutes to burn down.
A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the
ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum.
This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses.
It is soothing and helpful for earache and headache, tinitus, stress and tension. Treatment can also
cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell, even when the nose was previously blocked.
The treatment is finished off with a gentle facial massage which is both relaxing and de-toxifying for
the whole body, through its lymphatic drainage action.
Please note, this treatment is unsuitable for people with perforated eardrums, or grommets.
